The company was founded in 1973 by Rod Goulsbra, starting up as Argo Transport with one small transit van. The company has since evolved into mainly household removals and storage. We have different sized vans to suit all requirements and a fully containerised storage warehouse.
Our policy is to offer a personal service to all our customers and all of our removal and storage quotes are based on individual requirements. We can tailor our service to your own particular needs i.e. we can provide a full packing service or breakables only. If you want to do your own packing, we can give you advice on the best ways to pack and provide you with all the necessary materials.
We must be doing something right as we have been in business for over 30 years, through 2 recessions, and we are still here! Many of our removals come from previous customers or are from personal recommendations. We also have links with local solicitors and estate agents and many of these are happy to recommend us.
All our staff are trained in house and have been with us for a number of years. We know we are only as good as our staff and we are confident that they will take the utmost care with your furniture and effects whilst being polite, helpful and good humoured.
We are a friendly and cheerful crew and we try to make your removal as painless as possible. Moving is stressful at the best of times, but with over 30 years of experience we have seen it all before, and we would like to think that we can cope with any eventualities. We offer a complete household removal service which can be customised to your requirements.
On receipt of your enquiry we will arrange for an estimator to call at your house at a mutually convenient time. This can be during the day, during the evening or on Saturday if you prefer. Our estimator will then visit your house to assess the items to be removed and will decide how many men to use, which van or vans to use, how many cartons are required and any specialist equipment required. We will then send you a written quotation informing you of our charges and terms and conditions.
It is a good idea to get several quotations to compare prices and services, and also to have an alternative in case your preferred remover is not available when the date is finalised. Dates do change, unfortunately! We all see jobs differently and prices may vary but at the end of the day you do get what you pay for.
If you choose our company, on arrival at your house on the removal day, our team will walk round the house to see what is to be moved. They will then load the van in the most efficient and effective way making sure that your effects are well wrapped and protected and are transported in a manner that will not damage them.
On completion of loading, the van will then be driven to the new house for unloading. When we arrive at your new house, the removers will walk round with you to see where the items are to be placed and all furniture and effects will be put in the required room if possible.
As a small hint, removers are a one- off breed, but they do work better with a regular supply of tea!
We also deliver part loads and small items all over the U.K. We usually try to combine several small items together to keep the price realistic. This may mean waiting until we have a van going to the area concerned but we will try to make loads up as quickly as possible.

We have our own containerised warehouse in Bollington which is fully insulated and alarmed through to a central monitoring station. Here we can offer storage for complete house loads, part house loads or single items.
It may be that your removal dates do not coincide and you may have to go in store for anything from one day to a few months to a few years! It may be that you are having an extension done or have suffered flood, fire or other damage to your house and need to empty the contents for a period of time whilst work is carried out. You may have been given furniture by a relative or just having a de-clutter.
Our storage facility uses the furniture removal industry standard storage container. This is a large wooden crate approximately 8ft x 7ft x 5ft ( a nominal 250 cubic foot), not to be confused with the steel shipping containers.
The advantages of containerised storage are numerous:-
- The containers are delivered to your address in a specialist vehicle, and loaded straight from your house into our containers which are closed at your house. They are then unloaded by fork lift truck at our warehouse and stacked in store. The container will not be opened again until delivery at your new house thus eliminating the risk of your item getting mixed up with another customer’s.
- The contents are blanket wrapped in the container and insulated by the wrapping and also the wooden container itself. As the container is sealed contents are kept clean, dry and dust free.
- The containers can be stacked on top of one another, thus making more efficient use of warehouse space and keeping costs down.
An inventory is taken of the contents of each container in case you need to retrieve an item from store. We do offer a retrieval service and whereas pieces of furniture and larger items can be found relatively easily, finding a smaller item such as a passport or driving license may be more difficult! The phrase “needle in a haystack?comes to mind. Someone once said “the impossible we do at once, miracles take a bit longer!?/div>
Although our store is usually reasonably full we do offer a self store facility if we have surplus space available. Items can be delivered by arrangement. Please note that as our warehouse is not always manned our self storage facility is not suitable if you want regular access to your goods.

As well as household removals we also undertake office removals. Please phone to arrange a visit from our estimator who will view and assess items to be removed and access at both new and old office if possible.
We use the plastic crate system for packing files, stationery, I.T. equipment etc. If you prefer to do your own packing these crates can be delivered at any time in advance of the removal date, and left with you to un-pack in your own time. we aim usually to deliver crates 2, 3 or 4 days in advance of removal day, and leave for 2, 3 or 4 days after removal day, before collecting.

We can offer a full packing service, part pack service or we can supply packing materials for you to pack the small items yourselves if you prefer.
A full packing service covers all small items that can be boxed and packed, principally all glass, china, pictures, mirrors, toys, books, bedding, clothing, linen, contents of kitchen cupboards, and other sundry items.
A part- pack service usually covers breakables only, i.e. glass, china, ornaments, pictures and mirrors and other breakable items.
If you prefer to pack some or all small items yourselves we can supply a range of cartons, carton tape, bubblewrap, packing paper and linen bags if required. If you use your own cartons please ensure that they are strong enough and have lids. Thin single wall cartons will collapse under load, and if we can not stack cartons on top of one another then valuable space will be wasted in the van and also your goods are likely to get damaged if the carton wall is crushed.
We would point out that under our contract terms and conditions we are not liable for damage to, or breakages of items not packed by our staff.
Hanging wardrobe cartons and linen bags for current bedding are part of the equipment carried on the van and unless arrangements have been made in advance, these wardrobe cartons should be returned on removal day. Wardrobe boxes are available to purchase if required.
